The challenge of designing pieces in collaboration with the AGNSW for this exhibition was both exciting and daunting.
Handed a fistful of photocopies of the works to be included in the exhibit I rushed back to my studio to devour the flavour of those times.
I so enjoyed trying to convey the sense of excitement and change that appeared evident to me in these works. Margaret Marks, El Lissitzky and Schwitters particularly inspired me.
Margaret Marks in particular was a pioneer of her time and I have developed a huge respect for what she achieved.
The bold simple lines, strong colour and pattern prevalent in the works I saw resonated with me and I aimed to create works that reflected these qualities. I took these qualities and translated the flavor of the period into pieces relevant to today’s lifestyle.
